Friday, July 15th, 2011: Scrappers Garcia Smacks 5 Hits!
It was a good day for the Scrappers at Eastwood Field as they clipped the State College Spikes 16-1. It was tremendous day for Felipe Garcia, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage.

The Mahoning Valley catcher told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."

F. Garcia hit a two-run single in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off D. Bell in the 7th.

Garcia is presently hitting at a .429 pace with 1 home run, 5 RBIs and has scored 4 times.
Friday, July 15th, 2011: Ismael Vega Out for 1-2 Weeks
Ismael Vega at first refused to leave today's Staten Island-Lowell game after he suffered dead arm syndrome while throwing a pitch. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Lowell reliever said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Vega out of action for 1-2 weeks.

Vega has compiled an ERA of 7.62 so far this season, winning 1 games with no losses and no saves. In 8 relief appearances he has hurled 13 innings, yielded 16 hits and struck out 15. Opposing hitters have batted .302 against Vega.
Wednesday, July 13th, 2011: Estes Shuts Out Yankees
In a knockout performance, Wally Estes beat the Yankees 9-0 with an impressive 1-hit shutout.

The IronBirds hurler finished with 9 strikeouts and no walks. He showed pinpoint control and a sharp fastball.

Estes told reporters after the game, "My arm felt good, mechanics were good and my stuff was working ...it don't get any better than this."

The Yankees manager said, "It was a rough one for my guys. We weren't at our best...and their guy was."

Looking at his season stats, Estes has won 2 and lost 2, collecting 34 strikeouts and 6 walks in 36.2 innings with a 2.95 ERA.
