Midwest League 07-17-2011 Home | | | Breaking News |  | Thursday, July 14th, 2011: Great Lakes Wins, Blanks Whitecaps In a sharp 5-hit performance, Don Sanford tossed the Great Lakes Loons to a 8-0 shutout victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps, fanning 11 and walking 1.
"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," the West Michigan manager said in his postgame interview.
Sanford in 2011 has fashioned a 8-5 mark, 4.37 ERA and thrown 103 innings in 18 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .264 against him. |  | Monday, July 11th, 2011: Midwest League's Hottest Hitter A hot-hitting week got Johnathan Sinclair the Midwest League Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers.
The Clinton first baseman slammed them for a .486 average, 17 hits in 35 at-bats, 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 9 runs.
In the postgame press conference, Sinclair shared his hitting philosophy with the SION scribes: "Just look for the seams and hit between them...nothin' more than that."
So far this season Sinclair is batting .359 with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 98 hits in 273 at-bats, 40 walks and a .462 OBP. Sinclair has played in 68 games. |  | Thursday, July 7th, 2011: López Too Tough, Blanks Burlington Cristián López effectively shut down the Bees today, blanking them 10-0 on 5 hits, ringing up 6 strikeouts and allowing 2 walks. The Lumberkings pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.
"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," López said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."
The Bees skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."
